Wilgerbosdrift’s high-class sire Fire Away made headlines at Fairview on Friday when his classy son My Best Shot won Friday’s feature race, the Friendly City Stakes (Open (Non-Black Type)) (1800m).Making just his second start as a four-year-old, the Alan Greeff trained gelding showed his class when My Best Shot romped home to score impresively.
Under Richard Fourie, My Best Shot raced five lengths off the front runners early on, before powering home down the centre of the track to win by two and a quarter lengths.

My Best Shot, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Gypsy Madonna, has won 11 of 19 starts, with the gelding’s victories of last season including the Listed Ibhayi Stakes, Listed Bryanston Auctioneers East Cape Guineas and Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby.
Friday’s winner was a R120 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale, with his latest win pushing My Best Shot’s earnings to R1 035 131 (he also claimed the R250 000 bonus for winning last season’s Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Sophomore Challenge).
