Future Wilgerbosdrift sire Fire Away hails from one of the very best families in the stud book.
A half-brother to Lane’s End sire and G1 Belmont Derby winning millionaire Mr Speaker, Dixie Stakes winner Fire Away was produced by Salute- a G2 Demoiselle Stakes runner up and Unbridled daughter of unbeaten champion Personal Ensign.
The latter, one of the greatest racemares in North American history who went unbeaten in 13 starts, has produced a dynasty which continues to make its mark on major races.
Personal Ensign’s presence was to the fore over the weekend, with her descendants coming to the fore in several notable feature races run in America on Saturday.
Teresa Z, a four-year-old daughter of Smart Strike and the stakes winning With Flying Colors, made it win number five when landing the G3 Turnback The Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct on Saturday. The filly stalked the early speed and made a strong move out of the final turn before gearing down for a six-length win in the $150,000 Turnback the Alarm Handicap
It was a second graded victory for Teresa Z, who had previous tasted graded success when victorious in the 2017 G3 Monmouth Oaks.
The 2018 Turnback The Alarm Handicap winner’s second dam is 1995 G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner My Flag, a daughter of champions Easy Goer and Personal Ensign.
Another member of this illustrious family to impress on Saturday was the talented Seeking The Soul, who found only City Of Light too good when taking second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs.
The five-year-old entire by Perfect Soul went down by 2.5 lengths in the Dirt Mile but still accounted for the graded winners Bravazo, Firenze Fire, Giant Expectations and Catalina Cruiser.
Seeking The Soul, who has earned more than $1.6 million in stakes, had previously won both the 2017 G1 Clark Handicap and G3 Ack Ack Handicap. He is out of G3 Iowa Oaks winner Seeking The Title –whose granddam is Personal Ensign.
