The family of Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young stallion Fire Away was to the fore at Tuesday’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.
A colt by unbeaten Triple Crown winner Justify, the two-year-old was knocked down to Zedan Racing Stables for $600 000 at Tuesday’s session.
“He is a very well-balanced horse,” said Gary Young, who was acting on behalf of Zedan Racing. “He worked well. I trust Hidden Brook. I think they do a very good job down there. Bob Baffert would know Justify better than anyone and he was very bullish on this horse. That’s about where we thought he’d go. We are happy to get him. The market is very strong.”
The colt, catalogued as Hip 11, was consigned to auction by Hidden Brook.
He is out of the Distorted Humor mare Unbound, who won three times in Japan and who finished second in the Punkin Pie Stakes.
Unbound’s granddam is unbeaten champion Personal Ensign -North America’s Broodmare Of The Year in 1996, and granddam of Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed stallion Fire Away.
The latter, a G3 Dixie Stakes winning son of leading sire War Front, has some exceptionally well bred members of his first crop on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale. They include In A Blue Moon (Lot 39), a colt out of Breeders Guineas winner Luna Child, Grape Shot (Lot 406), a filly out of a three-parts sister to Horse Of The Year Igugu, and the impeccably bred Hope And Dreams (Lot 407). The latter, a colt out of outstanding broodmare Halfway To Heaven, is a half-brother to champions Hawwaam and Rainbow Bridge as well as to dual G1 winner Golden Ducat.
