Feature race hopes for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s short-lived sire Soft Falling Rain’s classy daughter Gin Fizz booked a possible ticket to the G3 Fillies Mile when she won a smart race at Turffontein on Saturday.

Runner up to four-year-old Vistula in the G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge last time out, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred 3yo was all the rage for a graduation plate over 1450m on Saturday, with Gin Fizz eventually starting the 5-10 tote favourite.

Under a confident ride from Callan Murray, Gin Fizz made all to score a facile two length and she is clearly in great form at the moment.

The win provided Soft Falling Rain with a 100% strike rate at Turffontein on Saturday, with Gin Fizz his sole runner on the card.

Her sire’s very first winner, Gin Fizz impressed on debut when scoring by 7.4 lengths, with subsequent efforts seeing the de Kock trained 3yo finish second in both the G3 Pretty Polly Stakes and Listed Ruffian Stakes before finishing fourth in the G2 SA Fillies Nursery.

She is one of 20 winners to have emerged from her ill-fated sire’s first crop, with the crop having also produced G2 Gagasi FM Debutante winner Montreal Mist and the stakes placed Alramz.

An Equus Champion, and a graded stakes winner in three different countries, Soft Falling Rain has a single lot on Sunday’s Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and two lots on this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
