Buffalo Bill Cody colt maintains his unbeaten record

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young stallion Buffalo Bill Cody looks to have a very exciting son on his hands in the form of Pistol Pete.

The latter, a member of his sire’s first crop, made it two wins from two starts with a brilliant performance at Turffontein on Saturday.

Under Kaidan Brewer, the Tony Peter trained two-year-old was always up with the pace in Saturday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (1000m) before quickening up smartly to score by an emphatic six and a quarter lengths.

Pistol Pete, described by his rider as a “very nice horse”, looks like a feature race contender in the making.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete had won his only previous start when romping home to a two and a quarter length win on debut.

The colt, who is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky, was a R380 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Pistol Pete has a half-brother (Lot 106), by The United States, on offer at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale.
His sire Buffalo Bill Cody showed high-class form when winning six of ten starts, and won from 1160m to 1600m.
Buffalo Bill Cody is a son of triple Australian Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice (also sire of such top stallions as Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt, Stratum and Rafeef), and he hails from the same female line as top US stallion Hard Spun.

The latter, a son of Danzig -the great grandsire of Buffalo Bill Cody, has sired more than 100 stakes winners with Hard Spun’s tally including such Breeders’ Cup winners as Aloha West and Spun To Run.
Buffalo Bill Cody has ten lots on offer at the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale.
