Wilgerbosdrift’s homebred champion Hawwaam is starting to fire on all cylinders with his first crop of runners. The son of Silvano’s good form has continued when his promising son Spaarne Rivier won at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday. In the process, the colt became Hawwaam’s third winner from his last three runners!
Trained by Mike and Mathew De Kock, Spaarne Rivier followed up a good third on debut with a courageous win on Wednesday. Under a front running ride from Callan Murray, Spaarne Rivier made all to claim the Tote For The Win Open Maiden (1400m) by more than two lengths. Bred by Al Khayl Breeders, the lightly raced three-year-old races for Mesdames D L Erasmus & L Huntingford & Mr H W Leyenaar.
Spaarne Rivier, who is out of the Var mare Bargeme, was a R750 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.
His inform, five time G1 winning sire Hawwaam had also enjoyed success over the past weekend, with Hawwaam gelding Diogenes winning the final race at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, and his daughter Cool Wind scoring at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Hawwaam, who shares his multiple champion sire with reigning South African champion sire Vercingetorix, has three lots on offer at Saturday’s Two Year Old Sale.
