Flower Alley filly lands Yellowwood Handicap


Wilgerbosdrift’s inform sire Flower Alley, whose daughter Santa Therese recently recorded her seventh straight win, had another fine day at Turffontein on Saturday.

The Travers Stakes winning son of Distorted Humor supplied a trio of winners at Turffontein, with Flower Alley’s three winners headed by his daughter Bold Fortune landing Saturday’s G3 Yellowwood Handicap (1800m) in impressive fashion.

Trained by Stuart Pettigrew, Bold Fortune picked up her biggest win to date when romping home to a clear-cut win in the Yellowwood Handicap of 2021.
Under Diego De Gouveia, the four-year-old daughter of Flower Alley hit the front some way from home, and pulled away to score by a length and three quarters.

Bred by the Narrow Creek Stud, Bold Fortune has now won four of just 11 starts, with the filly having won her previous start at the Vaal by two and a quarter lengths back in July.

Out of the Rich Man’s Gold mare Plata Parana, Bold Fortune is the 28th stakes winner sired by Flower Alley.

She was one of three winners at Turffontein on Saturday for her sire, with Flower Alley filly Damova landing the second race, and Flower Alley gelding Prince Evlanoff victorious in the third race.

Making just her second start the Joe Soma trained Damova broke her maiden when scoring a good win under Julius Mariba.
The Moutonshoek bred three-year-old stayed on gamely to win by three-parts of a length, while beating fellow Flower Alley filly Cheringoma into second place.

Trainer Alec Laird sent Flower Alley’s gelded son Prince Evlanoff to record a fourth win when that Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein scored an effortless six length win over 1800m on Saturday. In the process, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred five-year-old accounted for champion Nebraas (second) with the likes of Sound Of Summer and Green Haze further back in running.

Winning for a second time in his past three starts, Prince Evlanoff is yet to finish out of the first two in three starts over 1800m.
