18th G1 winner for War Front!

Claiborne Farm’s outstanding sire War Front, sire of the Wilgerbosdrift bound Fire Away, has enjoyed a wonderful season in 2018 and, at the time of writing, has been represented by 16 individual black type winners this year.

The son of Danzig was back in the news at Woodbine on Sunday when his sons Fog Of War and War Of Will finished first and second in the G1 Summer Stakes. In the process, the Chad Brown trained Fog Of War became the 18th G1 winner for his sire.

Fog Of War, who is likely to run next in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, settled off the pace in fourth early in the field of 12 juveniles. Looking as if he might stall coming off the turn, he hit his best stride when it mattered and was able to get past War of Will to complete the one-mile contest in a final time of 1:33.90 over firm turf. The winning margin was three-quarters of a length by the Chad Brown trainee.

Now unbeaten in two starts, Fog Of War (who is from the same female line as former Wilgerbosdrift sire Tiger Ridge) is out of the Galileo mare Say –and is a full-brother to the stakes winning Naval Intelligence.

War Front’s other major runners in 2018 include G1 July Cup winner U S Navy Flag (bound for the AUS$13 000 000 The Everest), G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup hero Lancaster Bomber, and the graded winners Lull, Fire Away, Dream Awhile, and Cambodia.

To date War Front has sired 76 stakes winners (12%) and his offspring have already banked more than $57 000 000 in North America.

Also responsible for prominent young stallions Declaration Of War and War Command, War Front has also once again proved massively popular at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

War Front is responsible for, at the time of writing, both the top colt ($2.4 million) and filly ($1.75 million) sold at the September Sale.

War Front’s son Fire Away, destined for Wilgerbosdrift, ranks as an exciting future stud prospect, as he is not only by an exceptional stallion but also hails from a remarkable female line. A G3 winning half-brother to Lane’s End sire and G1 Belmont Derby hero Mr Speaker, Fire Away is out of an Unbridled (damsire also of triple Champion Sire Tapit) and the unbeaten G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, and Broodmare Of The Year, Personal Ensign.
