Third winner for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s deceased sire Soft Falling Rain has made a bright start to his stud career, and the Equus Champion was at it again on Friday, when he was represented by a third first crop winner.

His Piemonte Stud bred 2yo daughter Pierina became her sire’s third winner when she made all the running to shed her maiden, at the second time of asking, by an emphatic 3.5 lengths over 1000m at Fairview.
Dispatched the even money favourite, the Alan Greeff trained Pierina had been second on debut but she made no mistakes on Friday when romping home to win as she liked.

Out of the Tapit mare Tapdance, Pierina was a R100 000 buy from the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.

Soft Falling Rain’s other first crop runners include brilliant debut winners Gin Fizz (a runner in Saturday’s G3 Pretty Polly Stakes) and Mawsool.

To date, the son of National Assembly has had nine runners- of which eight have either won or finished in the money.

One of 16 G1 winners for his sire, and from the immediate family of outstanding sire Smart Strike, Soft Falling Rain was South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2012, when unbeaten in four starts.

Subsequently successful in all of the G2 Godolphin Mile, G2 Nayef Joel Stakes and G3 UAE 2000 Guineas, Soft Falling Rain, who sadly died last year, has 25 yearlings on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
