Second winner for Hawwaam

Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed young stallion Hawwaam came up with his second first-crop winner on Wednesday.
Hawwaam’s two-year-old daughter Take It As Red became her sire’s second winner from four runners when she won the second race at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

Trained by Piet Steyn, the filly was given a fine ride by Chad Little in the Klawervlei Stud Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1400m).
She hit the front a long way out, and kept going gamely to break her maiden by nearly half a length.

Bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Take It As Red had finished fourth in each of her four previous starts.

The filly, who is out of the High Chaparral mare Santiburi, was a R150 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Racing Winter Yearling Sale.

She is from the first crop of Hawwaam, the Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2018-2019, whose ten wins, from 13 starts, included five G1 triumphs.

By the same sire as outstanding stallion Vercingetorix, Hawwaam has four lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.
