SA Fillies Nursery success for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s much missed G1 SA Nursery winning sire Soft Falling Rain enjoyed a notable, posthumous success at Turffontein on Saturday.
His Paul Peter trained daughter Heavens Girl showed her class when accounting for the blue blooded Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfonten bred filly Desert Miracle to claim the G2 4Racing SA Fillies Nursery (1160m) on Champions Day.

Under Warren Kennedy, the two-year-old Ndoro Stud bred Heavens Girl stormed into the lead 400m from home and kept finding more to win by just over three-parts of a length.

Now a two time winner from just six starts (the filly had been second in the G3 Protea Stakes and Listed Ruffian Stakes in her two previous outings), Heavens Girl provided her trainer with a second consecutive win in the SA Fillies Nursery.

Heavens Girl, who is out of the Dynasty mare Maggie Muggins, has now won or placed in each of her six starts and she is another fine advert for her late sire Soft Falling Rain.

The 2021 SA Fillies Nursery winner was a R110 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale.

Himself an unbeaten champion at two, Soft Falling Rain has more than made his presence felt from his first three crops of racing age, with these crops also including East Cape champion World Radar, fellow graded stakes winner Montreal Mist, G1 Golden Horse Medallion runner up Pray For Rain, and Memorial Mile hero Marmara Sea.
