Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Fire Away is the sire of top-class three-year-old Fire Attack.The latter dominated proceedings at Saturday night’s Highveld Feature Season Awards which took place at Turffontein.
Not only was Fire Attack named Horse Of The Season, but the Alec Laird trained colt was also crowned Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding and Champion Middle Distance 1800-2000m horse. Bred by Ndoro Stud, Fire Attack, winner of the 2024 G2 TAB SA Nursery, has finished first or second in four graded stakes races this season.
The son of Fire Away scored his biggest win when downing older rivals to land the 2025 G1 HKJC World Pool Premier’s Champions Challenge. Fire Attack, who has earned more than R2.1 million in prize money, also showed his class when finishing second, to fellow Fire Away son Confederate, in the G1 TAB SA Classic.
His G3 Dixie Stakes winning sire Fire Away looks to have another potentially promising sort in the form of Radio Star. The latter made a promising debut when finishing a close up second at Turffontein on Saturday.
