WILGERBOSDRIFT’S CAPE SALE DRAFT


Wilgerbosdrift are proud to offer 20 high quality lots at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale, set to be held for the first time at the Mistico Equestrian Centre near Paarl.
The draft includes yearlings by some of South Africa’s most popular stallions, such as Var, Ideal World, and Sail From Seattle, with the last currently the country’s leading sire by individual 2yo winners.

First of the Wilgerbosdrift draft to come up for sale is lot 1, a daughter of ill-fated, but proven G1 sire Sail From Seattle. A full-sister to this season’s 2yo debut winner Puget Sound, this filly is out of a three time winning daughter of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner and successful sire and broodmare sire Trempolino.

Next into the ring, is lot 13, a chestnut colt from the second crop of former European champion Twice Over. The colt, who has been named Two Of Us, is out of a winning Mark Of Esteem half-sister to Brazilian G1 performer Not To Tell You and is from the same family as US legend and Triple Crown winner Affirmed.

Mambo In Seattle, a proven G1 sire whose dam is a full-sister to dual US champion sire  A P Indy, is the sire of lot 17, a bay filly by the name of Always Red. She is out of G3 Yellowwood Handicap second Lizzie Arden –whose G2 winning dam Red Dor is a sister in blood to G1 Paddock Stakes winner Double D’Or.

The Wilgerbosdrift bred dual Guineas winner Noordhoek Flyer, sadly now deceased, is sire of lot 22, an unnamed colt whose winning Fort Wood dam is a three parts sister to exported G1 SA Guineas winner Heir Apparent and to G3 winner Quickwood, dam of this season’s G1 winning filly Nightingale.

Sail From Seattle, a close relative of influential US champion sire Smart Strike, is sire of lot 24, a bay colt named In The Navy. The latter, a half-brother to 3 winners, is out of a three time winning daughter of champion sire Western Winter and Elliodor’s stakes winning daughter Fragrant Lady and is from the same family as 2017 Gauteng Guineas contender Janoobi.

Canadian champion and millionaire Marchfield, is an impeccably bred son of champion sire A P Indy –from the same family as last year’s US champion 2yo and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Classic Empire. He is the sire of 28, a filly named Nyali Bridge, whose G2 placed dam is a daughter of  AP Indy’s successful half-brother Tiger Ridge. The family of French G1 winner and G1 sire Marchand de Sable and recently retired dual G2 Zabeel Mile winner Safety Check –among others!

Mambo In Seattle is sire of the filly Summer Day, catalogued as lot 32. She is a half-sister to recent winner O’ Keeffe, and her dam, by world leading sire and broodmare sire Royal Academy, is out of a stakes placed Danehill ½ sister to British G2 winner Sapience (whose sire, like Royal Academy, is by the great Nijinsky II).

Rosario, lot 43, shares her sire, Sail From Seattle, with such G1 winners as Elusive Gold and Gulf Storm. A half-sister to 3 winners, she is out of a 3 time winning daughter of Wilgerbosdrift’s former successful sire Rich Man’s Gold- also broodmare sire of the G1 winners Athina, Louis The King and Wagner.

High Chaparral’s son Golden Sword was a top class racehorse, who won the G3 Chester Vase and ran second in the G1 Irish Derby. He is sire of 52, a chestnut filly by the name of Magic Mountain, whose relatives include the mighty Horse Chestnut and champion filly Monyela.

A P Indy’s champion son Marchfield is sire of lot 70 –a chestnut filly, whose siblings include G1 Cape Derby runner up Tan Can, and G3 East Cape Derby winner St Tropez. The filly on offer, who has been named Factor Fifty, is from the same family as champion filly Ethereal Lady and current G1 performer African Ruler.

The Wilgerbosdrift bred champion, Kildonan, has come up with some smart performers at stud, notably the likes of champion filly Rosier, G3 winner Beach Goddess and the very smart Night In Tahiti. Kildonan, also sire of the promising Vision To Kill, is sire of Amex (Lot 72), whose dam is a half-sister to exported champion, and G1 winner, Asylum Seeker.

Cloudless Sky is the name of lot 79, a colt by Pivotal’s dual Guineas winning son Noordhoek Flyer. He is out of a winning half-sister to July dead-heating champion Dancer’s Daughter, and his other notably relatives include recent G2 Merchants winner Search Party.

Kingmambo’s G1 son Mambo In Seattle has some smart sorts to his name, and he is responsible for lot 91 –a bay colt whose dam is a three time winning ½ sister to G1 Met winner Martial Eagle and this season’s G3 Algoa Cup hero Nebula. Also the family of ill-fated G1 winner Divine Jury and Triple Tiara winner Cherry On The Top.

Leading sire Var, whose yearlings have fetched up to R4 000 000, is the sire of 18 G1 performers (and counting!). He is also sire of lot 92 –a chestnut colt by the name of Savea. The latter is out of Tiger Ridge’s G3 Acacia Handicap winning daughter Amur Affair, whose own dam is a full-sister to G1 winner Fair Maiden.

Rock Painting is the name of lot 92, who is a bay son of dual Canadian champion and millionaire Marchfield. A half-brother to 3 winners, Rock Painting is out of an Elliodor sister to a G2 performer and hails from the same family as July winning champion Heavy Metal.

Four time G1 winner Twice Over has already had a feature race contender from his first crop of 2yos this season and the European champion is sire of lot 99, a filly called Queen Makeda. She is out of a winning Fort Wood mare –very closely related to Horse Of The Year and outstanding sire Dynasty, as well as recent G3 winner Fortissima.

Hand On Year Heart is the name of lot 112, a bay colt by Mambo In Seattle. A half-brother to a smart winner, the colt is out of a multiple winner by former top US sprinter Yes It’s True and hails from the family of US G1 winner Run Man Run.

Champion Marchfield is the sire of lot 118- a filly whose second dam is former G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Emerald Beauty, while proven G1 sire Ideal World is responsible for lot 129 –a colt out of a winning ½ sister to ill-fated sire and July winner Eyeofthetiger.

Last of the Wilgerbosdrift Cape draft to come under the hammer is lot 135, a colt by unbeaten 2yo champion Kildonan. He is out of a four time winning daughter of emerging broodmare sire Tiger Ridge and dual G1 winning champion Rat Burana.
