SOFT FALLING RAIN FILLY TOPS CAPE YEARLING SALE

Consigned

For a second year in a row, a yearling sired by Wilgerbosdrift’s sadly deceased champion Soft Falling Rain proved the star attraction at the Cape Yearling Sale. While Soft Falling Rain colt Tree Of Wisdom topped the 2018 Cape Sale, it was a daughter of Soft Falling Rain who was the top lot sold off Sunday’s 2019 Cape Yearling Sale.

Consigned, like Tree Of Wisdom, by Wilgerbosdrift, the Soft Falling Rain daughter Soft Day (Lot 167) was sold to Glen Puller for R360 000 at the Mistico Equestrian Centre held sale.

Out of the five time winning Tiger Ridge mare Susanna, Soft Day is from the immediate family of G1 winning fillies Covenant and Promisefrommyheart, with the latter also dam of G2 Premier Trophy/G2 Peninsula Handicap winner and hot sire Master Of My Fate.

Her sire Soft Falling Rain ended the Cape Yearling Sale as the second leading sire by aggregate, with the champion of National Assembly’s six (of only seven lots offered) yearlings to sell grossing R860 000.

Soft Falling Rain, whose daughter Gin Fizz was second in the recent Listed Ruffian Stakes, was the Leading Sire by Average at the 2019 Cape Sale.

The son of National Assembly has an outstanding draft on offer at April’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, with Soft Falling Rain’s consignment including a filly (Lot 13) out of East Cape Nursery winner Winter Fantasy, a half-brother (Lot 20) to the very smart Pacific Trader, a colt out of Equus Champion and multiple G1 winner Alboran Sea (Lot 22), a colt (Lot 86) out of a G2 winning daughter of Silvano, and a half-brother (Lot233) to G1 SA Fillies Classic winner Athina.
