Rain relative makes waves Down Under

Wilgerbosdrift’s popular young stallion Soft Falling Rain is from the same family as one of Australia’s most promising three-year-olds.

So You Win, a gelding by So You Think, came from last to down his royally bred stablemate Tangmere (Frankel) in the #The Races Handicap (1550m at Canterbury on Wednesday.

In the process, the Australian bred took his tally to two wins from just four outings.

Trainer Chris Waller, who plans to run So You Win in both the G1 Rosehill Guineas and G1 ATC Derby, said after the win, “He was in an awkward spot and he had a horse hard up against him at the 600 so he had to go back around him to get clear running. That’s not easy to do Canterbury so it was good to see him finish off as well as he did.”

A third winner produced by Tale Of The Cat mare Rhode Island Red, whose granddam Quillummo is the third dam of Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain.

The latter, whose half-brother Let It Rain won both the G2 Heineken Cape Stayers and Listed Java Handicap this season, has made an immediate impact with his first yearlings.

Soft Falling Rain topped the First Crop Sires List at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where his seven yearlings fetched R4 million and averaged R571 428.

The son of National Assembly has three colts on offer at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale.
