Flower Alley filly makes it two out of three

Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Flower Alley looks to have a smart sort on his hands in the form of 3yo filly Splash Hit.

An impressive winner on debut, the filly proved disappointing next time out, but made amends in no uncertain terms when romping to a nine length win at Delta Downs on Wednesday night. Bred by the Runnymede Farm, Splash Hit was given her cue straight out of the gate and made the point through splits of :23.56 and :48.09. Kicking away into the far bend, she cruised home in the stretch to a nine-length romp over even-money favorite Lunar Approach (Malibu Moon).

Splash Hit is one of several smart looking three-year-olds representing Flower Alley this season, with others including impressive French debut winner Flower Fashion.

A son of US champion sire Distorted Humor, and from the same family as outstanding sire Lyphard, Flower Alley was a top class racehorse, who earned more than $2 000 000 in stakes. Like outstanding stallions Alydar, Buckpasser, Damascus, Medaglia D’Oro and Native Dancer (as well as current US superstar Arrogate), Flower Alley won the prestigious G1 Travers Stakes.

He won four graded races during his career and was also second to Horse Of The Year Saint Liam in the 20015 G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Retired to stud, Flower Alley quickly made his mark as a top class sire, with his offspring including champions I’ll Have Another, Lukes Alley and My Wandy’s Gal, among others.

His first South African yearlings will come on sale in 2018.
