Fifth first crop winner for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s ill-fated sire Soft Falling Rain was represented by his fifth first crop winner when his two-year-old daughter Montreal Mist romped home at the Vaal on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite taking on open company, the Sean Tarry trained juvenile was dispatched the 27-20 tote favourite for the 1000m sprint, and duly obliged in scintillating fashion.

The Soft Falling Rain filly hit the front with 300m left to run and drew clear to shed her maiden by four emphatic lengths.

Bred by the Clifton Stud, Montreal Mist has now won or placed in three of her four starts to date.

She was a R700 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.

Her deceased sire Soft Falling Rain, South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt Of 2012, has currently been responsible for five first crop winners, with his other two-year-old winners this season including Gin Fizz, second in both the G3 Pretty Polly and Listed Ruffian Stakes, debut winners Mawsool and Alramz and 3.5 length scorer Pierina.
