FEATURE RACE SUCCESS FOR NORTHERN BALLET

The Wilgerbosdrift bred Northern Ballet enjoyed a first feature race success when she won the Wedgewood Handicap over 2400m at Fairview on Friday.

A five-year-old daughter of recently crowned South African champion sire Silvano, Northern Ballet made it win number five with a gutsy half head win over stable mate, and fellow Silvano daughter, Tiffindell in the Friday feature.

She is trained by Justin Snaith for owners Greg Bortz and Braam Van Huyssteen, who spent R150 000 to acquire Northern Ballet from the 2014 National Yearling Sale.

Northern Ballet is the first winner out of the well bred Al Mufti mare Solo Dancer, whose granddam Royal Heroine won the inaugral G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile in 1984.

Wilgerbosdrift will be well represented at next week’s National Two Year Old Sale, with the farm’s draft including lots by such top class and promising sires as Elusive Fort, Jackson, Ideal World, Silvano and Var.
