Debut winner for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s sadly now deceased sire Soft Falling Rain has made a blistering start with his first 2yos this season, and the former Equus Champion took his total of first crop winners to 13 this season, following his daughter Balletto’s victory at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Mike de Kock trained two-year-old justified 8-10 tote favouritism when romping to a clear-cut debut win over 1000 metres on Tuesday.

Under jockey Gavin Lerena, Balletto put two and a quarter lengths between herself and runner up Princess Nicole to land the maiden juvenile plate for fillies in great style.

It was a great result for Soft Falling Rain, who not only sired Balletto but also runner up Princess Nicole.

Out of the Fort Wood mare Liberty Dance, Balletto was a R350 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Her G1 SA Nursery winning sire Soft Falling Rain is also the sire of promising 2yo winners Gin Fizz, Alramz, AL Jahbath, Hardfallingrain, Horatius and Zephira Rain. The deceased champion will be represented by his stakes placed son Alramz in Saturday’s G2 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes, while his classy daughter Montreal Mist lines up in the same day’s G2 Gagasi FM Debutante Stakes.

Soft Falling Rain has 14 lots on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.
