12th first crop winner for Soft Falling Rain

Wilgerbosdrift’s late sire Soft Falling Rain came up with his 12th first crop winner when his two-year-old son Hardfallingrain ran out a courageous winner at Kenilworth on Tuesday.
Trained by Glen Kotzen, the Narrow Creek Stud bred Hardfallingrain dug down deep to score a thrilling short head win, when prevailing in a tight finish to Tuesday’s second race –a maiden juvenile plate over 1200 metres.

A smart third on debut, Hardfallingrain is out of the Fort Wood mare Serra Nuda and he was a R160 000 buy from the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale.

South Africa’s Equus Champion Two-Year-Old Colt of 2012 , Soft Falling Rain has made a big impression with his first runners this season, with the son of National Assembly’s early 2yo winners including G3 Pretty Polly Stakes runner up Gin Fizz, Gatecrasher Stakes second Alramz and the very exciting, and unbeaten, Al Jahbath.

Soft Falling Rain, whose close relative Duchess Of Bourbon won the recent Winter Oaks, ranks among South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires by individual winners this season.

The close relative of Kentucky Oaks winner Gal In A Ruckus has an excellent draft of 14 on offer at the upcoming National 2YO Sale, with his draft including a colt (Lot 46) out of G3 Acacia Handicap winner Amur Affair, a colt (Lot 210) out of Equus Champion Laverna, and a colt (Lot 367) from the same female line as Danehill and Northern Dancer.
